How Is Cheating Prevented?

Whenever there is betting there is a possibility of cheating. The key potential cheat on BetBacked (BB) is that a judge could try to wager on a bet she decides.

So, BB has the following rules:

1. Once a bet is sealed, wagering stops, and then three judges are selected to decide the bet.
2. No bettor in a bet can be a judge of that bet.
3. The three judges decide independently, without consulting each other.
4. The identity of judges is secret.

To cheat, it remains possible for a judge to reach out to a bettor and propose that they split the profits from a favorable decision.

This cheat is fraud, though, with criminal penalties, which act as a deterrence.

Beyond these penalties, each BB bet has three judges. It’s highly unlikely that all three would independently reach out to the same bettor to collude.
