About

BetBacked empowers people to use bets and betting markets to evaluate the veracity of information on public webpages. It's a lie detector for the Internet.

BetBacked lets people and organizations bet on whether specified content on webpages is fair or misleading. The content is specified by URL, so anyone can look up a URL on BetBacked and see if a betting market exists about the content at that URL. If a betting market exists, viewers can see if the bettors believe that content is fair or misleading.

BetBacked is a new form of press that enables people to use an under-developed form of speech: betspeech. Betspeech means a bet used to communicate a fact or opinion.

BetBacked also enables a new form of speech: bet-described speech.

With ingenuity and development by a large community, betspeech and bet-described speech can become the world’s most reliable forms of speech.

BetBacked's operator is Michael Rossides, the holder of expired US patents 5,575,474 and 6,443,841, both entitled COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM USING BETS. These patents disclosed peer-to-peer betting before the conception and rise of such sites as betfair.com. He did not practice those patents, however, because he and potential investors feared prosecution.

Rossides has a pending utility patent application regarding the methods, features, and systems employed on BetBacked and is raising funds to:

  1. Improve this site and add an app version.
  2. Launch in the UK, where peer-to-peer betting is legal.
  3. Pay for a legal defense of BetBacked.com in the US.
  4. Launch in the US.
